University Of Delaware

The University of Delaware was been established in 1743 as a Presbyterian school, moved to Newark in 1765 and has been developed from a small private academy to a major university. The University of Delaware is the largest University in Delaware state (USA). The main campus is located in Dover, Lewes, and Wilmington. The current President of the University is President David Roselle.

Francis Alison in New London, Pennsylvania opened the University after establishment in 1743, as a "Free School". The General assembly for the State of Delaware passed the "An Act to Establish a College at Newark", in 1833 and by the next year, Newark College was opened. In 1843, it changed its name to Delaware College. The school was closed from 1859 until 1872. Finally on March 28, 1921 by another act passed by state assembly, it merged with the Delaware Women's college to form the University of Delaware .

Since 1921, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools has accredited the University. Professional accreditation is also held in Accounting, Athletic Training, Agricultural Engineering/ Engineering Technology, Chemistry, Physical Therapy, Business Administration, Dietetics, Clinical Psychology, Education, Family and Community Services, Engineering, Music, Medical Technology, Public Administration and Nursing.

The University includes over 15,000 undergraduates and nearly 4,000 graduate students. Though it is a state-supported school, it is privately chartered. The University enrolls the students from various backgrounds and a wide variety of geographic regions. According to current status, currently 60 percent of undergraduates are nonresidents. The University of Delaware strongly commits to enroll and retain minority of students.
